Dead Space: Downfall - Play by Play
As a result of playing a ton of Dead Space 2 lately, I’ve convinced myself that watching Dead Space: Downfall (the story of what happened before the events on the USG Ishimura) and documenting my experience might be fun. I have no idea what I’m getting into, but EA releases so much shit related to this franchise that one of these things has gotta be awesome, right?
Here’s a summary of the film according to Netflix:
A feature-length prequel to the Electronic Arts’ video game, this animated sci-fi horror adventure follows a group of space miners who uncover evidence of humankind’s creators then unwittingly release a violent alien race from within a faraway planet. Now it’s up to a special team of miners and space crew to stop the most ruthless, evil alien beings from wreaking havoc on the human race.
Alright, let’s do this.

These flip-up helmet visors are kind of silly. But, I guess we do need to see characters faces. Maybe badass transforming helmets are only issued to top tier engineers like Isaac Clarke?

Bitch, run. THAT’S JAFAR.

This guy has got to be wearing a safety strap, right? If those glasses slip too far down his nose, he’s totally fucked.

That’s a pretty awesome shot, actually.

Maybe I’m confused about how Rigs and/or Rig indicators work in the Dead Space universe, but a health indicator on an overcoat seems pretty pointless. Of course, it is the 2500’s. Who am I to judge?

Jackson is the only man brave enough to sport a mustache in space. Making him, by default, my favorite character in this movie so far.

Dude in charge and other dude hanging out with dude in charge seem to be identical twins. Is this narratively important?

“This is deep space…weird shit happens”, Barrow casually divulges. Meanwhile, man in background braves the hazardous alien atmosphere with the help of his Tippmann Performace Paintball Mask™.

Captain Mathius continues to berate Alissa Vincent while First Mate Barns tries desperately to close an embarrassing NSFW pop-up ad.

Donna is really happy with her career choice. Mainly because no one gives a shit if she cosplays as The Tick on casual Fridays.

Yup. This is a Dead Space movie.
